If you are cleaning a cedar shingle or shake roof you may want to check out our Cedar Wash, we made some ingredient changes to help brighten the wood shingles after the cleaning. Do yourself and your family a favor and try this product to solve your roof cleaning needs, you will be glad that you did, don't be caught wishing that you had used our roof cleaner it's not worth the risk using the others and we guarantee that ours will work.

Our best-selling Roof Wash is used across North America by over 5,000 roof cleaning contractors to clean roofs safely and efficiently without the use of bleach or harsh chemicals. Homeowners purchase our smaller size containers. Used correctly, every roof can be cleaned with our Roof Wash. There is no need to “go toxic” when cleaning your roof. Why open yourself up to a host of potential problems when you can use something as safe as this Roof Wash?

How to Clean Your Roof with Roof Wash

Use Roof Wash to remove stains caused by moss, black algae, mold, lichen or any fungus that may grow on roofs. It's highly effective on all types of roofing material: asphalt, metal, tile, wood shake, rubber and new composite materials. Note: we do have some roof cleaning products made specifically for other types of roofing like "Cedar Wash" for Cedar Shake Roofs and "Tile Roof Wash" for all types of cement and clay barrel tile roofing.

If you are afraid of spraying a chemical up on your roof you should be. Not only can the chemical run off and damage your plants and lawn but some roof cleaning products sold online can be fatal to your pets. These toxic chemicals can alter the color of your roof and stain any other surface it may contact on the way off the roof. Our "Roof Wash" is made from earth-friendly hydrogen peroxide and it will not harm people, pets or property. As an oxygen based cleaner, the product only has an active life of 4-6 short hours before this product biodegrades, making it by far the safest product in the roof cleaning industry.

Roof cleaning can be accomplished two ways, 1. The roof can be physically washed with light pressure or 2. Mother Nature can do the rinsing. Roof cleaning contractors go up on the roof and physically wash the roof down. There is always a natural concern from the homeowner about someone pressure washing their roof, a pressure wand in inexperienced hands can cause serious problems to a roof but a pressure washer in experienced hands will result in the highest quality, longest lasting “clean” available. After applying the Roof Wash the correct method is to be up on the roof using light pressure aiming down the roof at all times at the angle of the roof, this way there is never direct pressure with the roof. The pressure washer in this fashion is just being used to rinse the roof down, sending all the waste and debris into the gutters. There are also special nozzles for pressure washers that we manufacture called “Soft Tips” that would further reduce the impact pressure on a roof by up to 70%. When a roof is professionally cleaned this way, no damage occurs to the roof.

Most homeowners do not have the capability of cleaning their roof the way a contractor would so most choose method number 2 and let Mother Nature help out. Nothing will ever get a roof as clean as when it is physically washed down with a pressure washer, but this method will get the roof pretty darn close, let's say 85-90% cleaner. To do this, apply the solution to the roof and let it dry, then apply one more coat and leave the roof for Mother Nature to wash. A repeat application may be necessary after a number of rainstorms if the roof isn't as clean as you would like it but you can clearly see the roof get cleaner and cleaner after every storm, it will continue to clean itself for months and months after the application.

A Wash Safe roof cleaning contractor can be found in just about every state now, but if you can't find one, we would be glad to speak to your local handyman and go over the cleaning process with them. The biggest challenge as a home owner is figuring out how apply the product to your roof especially if you have one of those hard to reach roofs and we can help with that.

Here is a useful article that outlines the process of applying the product to your roof.

1.       How long to leave Roof Wash on before rinsing?

Roof Wash is ready to be rinsed off as soon as it’s applied, there is no dwell time it works instantly.

2.       Can you leave Roof Wash on for the rain to rinse off?

You can certainly use Roof Wash as a roof treatment instead of getting instant results by rinsing right off. Using the rain for the rinse requires time and will never clean a roof as effectively as a power rinse, however the minute Roof Wash is applied it will stop all growth then it’s up to the rain to do the rinsing. We sell our product to many companies that clean roofs professionally as in roof treatments, the key is re-applying every 60-90 days or as needed. Some home roof clean after the first application, some after the second and most certainly if a third is needed.

3.       How do you apply Roof Wash, with what?

Roof Wash needs to be applied to the infected parts of the roof, the easiest way is with a garden style pump sprayer but that involves accessing your roof. What the professionals use is a gas powered water transfer pump, the mix a big batch and hook up a garden hose to the transfer pump and from the gutters edge can spray any roof. These transfer pumps can be rented at tool rental companies or a second option is an electric submergible water transfer pump something you would use to pump out a swimming pool or spa, these are inexpensive and can be bought at any home improvement center, you just mix up a batch in a trash barrel, hook up a garden hose to the outflow of the pump and spray your roof, the best nozzle to spray your roof is a pistol style nozzle.

4.       What if I don’t want to go on the roof?

See question 2 and 3

5.       How often does Roof Wash need to be applied?

See question 2 but after your roof is cleaned we recommend at least one annual spraying per yesr this will keep your roof clean, don’t wait until it is visibly dirty again, the black algae, moss and lichen spores grow for years before are visible from the ground, spraying yearly and I recommend the month of November as that is when everything has ended it’s growth season and is about to go dormant, it’s at it’s weakest point, spray the roof then and the winter rains, ice and snow will clean your roof for you. Stay ahead of your problem, roof cleaning has become a part of annual home maintenance.

6.       How long does it take to remove the stains for roof moss, black algae and lichen?

If you are going to power rinse your roof after the application of the Roof Wash the roof will be clean that day, it will look like new. If you are using Mother Nature to rinse your roof all that depends on the amount and pressure of the rain fall you get, however you will see the effect and that the product is working just days after application.

7.       What is roof moss, black algae and lichen?

Those are all the different fungi that grow on roofs. Roof Wash successfully effects all of them.

8.       What should I not use to clean my roof?

You should never use or let a contractor use a bleach-based product. Bleach simply makes roof fungi translucent, meaning it will look clean but everything is still there and the next blooming season you will see it again. Bleach will also dry out your roofing material which leads to cracks, bleach will stain like bleach does if it drips and runs off the roof, bleach will destroy everything in your garden, kill your grass and everything else it comes in contact with, bleach belongs in the kitchen or in the laundry room.

9.       What roofing material does Roof Wash work on?

It works on all roofing materials without exception, including metal, asphalt, wood, tile, rubber, composite, everything and anything without damage to the roof.
